HEALTH & HEALING IN SEINE BIGHT
by: Ben Palacio
Doctor Of Metaphysical Sciences

Generally, it is beleived that when there are many common names for the same plant it suggest the many possible uses of that plant. That is, some plants in and around Seine Bight are known by a variety of names: (sometimes in several dialects), Spanish, English, etc. suggesting that it has been used by different cultures.

When we find a plant with four to five common names, we know it is a useful theraputic plant, For example Jackass bitters Botanically known as Neurolaena lobata, which is also known as Tres Puntas, Mano de Lagarto (Spanish names) and Kayabim (Mayan name). Golden Bitters (English name) is used for parasitic ailments such as malaria, fungi, ringworm, amoebas, and screw worms.

There are several distinct levels of healers in Seine Bight:

We have the Buyei who deals with both physical and spiritual ailments. We also have the very knowledgeable village healer, and the Grand-ma healer who is responsible for healing within the extended family (sometime 3-4 generations). In the past Seine Bight would also have a bush master, someone who is a Master at local and area plants, bushes vines leaves and roots including jungle survival. Seine Bight once had its own Snake doctor who limit his practices to treatment of snake and other serious bites.

The Partera or Midwife limits her practice to the assistance of pregnant women, childbirth, newborn disorders, and afterbirth remedies. An area bonesetter usually deals with broken bones or joint problems. Seine Bight like almost every village has a massage man or woman who practices some form of traditional massage, or Hand Healing technique.

Here is a list of Masseurs/Masseuses who pacticed or are practicing this art.
